Patient Advocates File Appeal Brief in Federal Case to Reclassify Medical Marijuana

The country's leading medical marijuana advocacy group, Americans for Safe Access (ASA), filed an appeal brief today in the D.C. Circuit to compel the federal government to reclassify marijuana for medical use. In July 2011, the federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) denied a petition filed in 2002 by the Coalition for Rescheduling Cannabis (CRC), which was denied only after the coalition sued the government for unreasonable delay. The ASA brief filed today is an appeal of the CRC rescheduling denial.

Take Action

ASA has filed a brief, launching an appeal of the Obama Administration’s decision to deny a nine year-old petition to reclassify cannabis under federal law. ASA needs your help today to fight this battle. The federal appeal process is long and expensive. Can you be a part of this by making a special contribution to support this effort (and ASA’s other important work) today? We need your support now, so we know that we can keep fighting in 2012.

Take action to support safe and legal access in San Francisco. Urge the Board of Supervisors to restore the MCD-Program ASAP!

Chapter and Affiliate Meetings

Launching an ASA chapter is a great way to formally bring together like-minded activists in your community to work together toward ensuring safe access to medical cannabis. ASA chapters are part of a national network of ASA activists and staff who work together on a regular basis to achieve shared goals. You can find more information and tools to start a chapter on our website!

Does your ASA Chapter have a special event, presentation or speaker planned for up-coming meetings? Send your information to CARoundup@SafeAccessNow.org to have it included on our weekly Roundup!
