"Just give everybody the chance to have the life they want." Hmmm. That's a pretty wide open statement.

What if the life someone wants is to walk up in a movie theater in Colorado and shoot and kill a whole bunch of people?

What if molesting children is the only thing that truly makes a person happy?

Does everyone really deserve the chance to just have the life they want?

I'm thinking your answer is . . ."no, Halo, because when people do those things it hurts other people, but gay marriage doesn't hurt anyone."

But see, that's where you are wrong. Gay marriage is wrong. Marriage is a union between a MAN and a WOMAN. That is it's definition. That is why it was created. For a man and a woman to be together and have a family. And when a man and a man, or a woman and a woman want to walk up in a CHURCH where MY GOD created MARRIAGE and MOCK IT, it hurts people. It hurts all the people who love God, and respect Him and His rules, and who are grateful and thankful for everything He gives them every single day of their lives. And it hurts God Himself, and I shed a tear when someone hurts my God, so it hurts ME.

You know... We live in a world where professional musicians are allowed to legally marry their instruments. There are guitar players out there who've married their guitars. Literally. And beyond that... Know that I once read somewhere that a guy had legally married his television set... I am not even kidding. So yea, especially in light of that, I'm with Mr. Eastwood.

I do try to have some respect for religions but... I also greatly admire phillosophy. And so naturally I have doubts - because that is the root of all philosophy - about the way the system works. I have to doubt that any religion, anywhere can claim to know - wholly and accurately - the mind of god, if such a thing as god even exists. Beyond twitter, of course. (Tweetof God = awesome.) And since we humans have created and defined marriage - it's a strictly human institution, right? So maybe the divine powers, such as they are, could care less.

It really just strikes a bad chord to say that two sane, sober, consenting adults who love each other should have to discriminate on the basis of gender alone in order for their private, intimate relationships to be approved of by society at large. It reminds me too much of the same claims that were - and are still, unfortunately - being made about interracial couples being 'unnatural' as well.

Yea, I vote for closing this topic once everyone has spoken as well. It's sad but true that these types of discussions so frequently get ugly.
