OKALOOSA CO., Fla. -- A Cantonment woman is facing charges after her ex-boyfriend accused her of attacking him at his home in Okaloosa County. He says she beat him with his own prosthetic leg.
Brandon Fleming lost his left leg when he was seven years old to a lawn-mowing accident.
"Its my left leg. It's amputated up to my ankle," he said. He says the prosthetic leg he wears is easily detachable.
Fleming says his ex-girlfriend, Jadian Hatfield, came to his home last month wanting to take their 2-year-old son. She brought two men with her.
"I went to the back room to call the law, and I heard my son scream. When I heard him scream I came back and she was pulling him outside the window. I jumped out the window to get my son in the car," Fleming said. "As I jumped in the back of the car, the guys jumped on me. She comes from behind me and my feet hanging out the car and she goes to grab my prosthetics off. And my feet hanging off so she goes to hitting my legs with it. It wasn't like a hitting me all over it's just a hitting me on the legs. I got out of the car and was able to get it from her."
That's when he says she pulled out a shotgun, so he ran back into the house. "I ain't scared of nothing or nobody, but I think she was crazy enough to do it," Fleming said.
Hatfield took off with their boy, but deputies eventually caught up with her.
Fleming said he is just glad to have his boy back. He has custody of his son until matters are sorted out with his ex-girlfriend.
Jadian Hatfield is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, domestic violence, battery, interfering with the custody of a minor and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
