As some of you may already know, our glorious president, Mr. Obama, has come up with a new tax. He has decided that visiting a tanning salon is a recreational activity, and has added a "recreation tax" to it. The same additional tax you pay when you visit an amusement park. So now when you go to a tanning salon, you pay for your visit, plus sales tax, plus recreation tax. WTF??

It seems like a lot of things people like to do are getting taxed these days, but what really chalks my ass about this is that Mr. Obama has chosen something that only affects a certain group of people. Fair skinned people. And may I point out that Mr. Obama is a black man, and does not need or want to tan. So this tax does not in any way affect him or his family.

Does the fact that I am pointing out that Mr. Obama is black make me a rascist? Of course not. Does his imposing a tax on only white people make him one? I'll leave that for each to ponder.

Meh. The president continues an old tradition. The lawmakers can - and eventually will - find a way to tax anything. That is not news.

... You know, there actually are countries in the world (Denmark!) where people don't mind being taxed because their government actually uses the money resulting from the taxes wisely. They have reliable, affordable healthcare for everyone and public transit among other such services. It reduces the overall stress of the nation, because the people feel that they are being heard and cared for.

In America... The problem is not that we are being taxed. The problem is - where does the money go? How many of use get to see or benefit from the resulting funds?

The people in congress... Their kids can go to college for free, more or less. They never have to pay back student loans. So it's not the whole public that benefits, it's the few. That's what bugs me about this country.

I know, right? I think our country's political/governmental system is so broken it can never be fixed.

Nothing is ever completely beyond fixing, I'm told... But it sure seems to be close to that, sometimes. Fixing just takes longer than breaking down, in most cases. Much longer...

Anyway. Congrats on achieving a post-count milestone! I'm not sure that I care for that method of ranking but - shrugs - it's prolly just built in to these forums.

Random thought from the CalmMountain: Why would anyone even want an invisible car? Imagine the insurance on that thing... =P

Hmmmm. So would you become invisible along with the car, behind the wheel of it. Or would you just be seen sitting there going down the road, teehee?

Depends on how lazy the artists are feeling, I would guess. =P Could be an interesting sight, though, if the drivers remained visible. Hrm. Do you think people would drive more carefully if their cars were invisible but they weren't?

I don't think people would drive any different. Instead of a car grill tailgating you, you would see the douchebag and his gestures.
