Post The All Media Discussion Thread

Hi,

Read any good books, comics or manga lately? Or seen a good movie? Upset by a cliffhanger in a tv series? Amazed at how much seems to get changed in the translation of an anime? Got a new albumn but only love the music on one or two tracks? Seeking fellow players of a computer or video game to compare notes with? Well, you're not the only one. So I figured we might as well have a thread here at the forums where we can discuss these kinda things.

Whether you're giving something thumbs up or thumbs down or anything inbetween, all I ask is that you mention at least one reason why you were impressed or disappointed. That will help people understand where you're coming from andadd to the conversations.

Feel free to join in. After all, the more the merrier.

Anime question: Is it just me or do a lot of characters who are portrayed as sweet, polite and considerate in the Japanese versions get morphed into whiny and annoying in the American versions? What the heck is with that? O.@

... Wow. Really? Nothing here? Nobody wants to talk about what books influenced them the most as a child? Nobody saw any scary movies or corny tv specials for halloween? Nobody listens to any music that they feel is worth discussing?

Well, oh-kay. I wouldn't mind having these kinds of conversations but hey, I'm not gonna force them on anybody.

I have got something. Just have been away. Does anyone like the band Dream Theater? I just got into them and they are really technical. Great music. A good example is the song "Panic Attack."

Enjoy or not. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for sharing, Reaptat! I'd never heard of this group before but gave them a listen and enjoyed it. Do you think that general biases existing against this genre of music prevent them from being better known?

Maybe. I hadn't heard of them until I played the game Rockband. Sometimes bands like this go unnoticed until people start saying to each other that they should check out this band.

Same here, but I love the words to this song. Althougth living with panic is not as cool as this music makes it suggest.

*nods* Wish that the lyrics had been on the screen as the song played, at times it was hard to catch them all and that's a shame because it means that part of the message was lost. Seems that the lyrics often reflect just as much about the singers as the melody.

On a similar note... The Trans-Siberian Orchestra will be passing through a nearby city next month on their annual winter tour! Yay! One of these days, I'm going to save up and brave the icy roads and get there. The light effects may be a bit over the top but the music is generally awesome. For those who haven't heard, a sample:

Calm, I did some looking and found the lyrics. Enjoy.

Music: Dream Theater, Lyrics: John Petrucci

All wound up
On the edge
Terrified

Sleep disturbed
Restless mind
Petrified

Bouts of fear
Permeate
All I see

Heightening
Nervousness
Threatens me

I am paralyzed
So afraid to die

Caught off guard
Warning signs
Never show

Tension strikes
Choking me
Worries grow

Why do I feel so numb
Is it something to do with where I come from
Should this be fight or flight
I don't know why I'm constantly so uptight

Rapid heartbeat pounding through my chest
Agitated body in distress
I feel like I'm in danger
Daily life is strangled by my stress

A stifling surge
Shooting through all my veins
Extreme apprehension
Suddenly I'm insane

Lost all hope for redemption
A grave situation desperate at best

Why do I feel so numb
Is it something to do with where I come from
Should this be fight or flight
I don't know why I'm constantly reeling

Helpless hysteria
A false sense of urgency
Trapped in my phobia
Possessed by anxiety

Run
Try to hide
Overwhelmed by this complex delirium

Helpless hysteria
A false sense of urgency
Trapped in my phobia
Possessed by anxiety

Run
Try to hide
Overwhelmed by this complex delirium
